Celebrating the life of David Marshall Morgan September 30th, 1940 – August 25th, 2022 David Morgan, age 81 passed away peacefully on August 25th, 2022, at Sutter Santa Rosa Regional Hospital with his son Jonathan Morgan by his side. David was born in Woodville, Wisconsin on September 30th, 1940, to Marshall and Ruth Morgan. He spent his early years growing up in Fort Morgan, Colorado. Then the family moved to Woodland, California where his father, Marshall accepted a job as Chief Chemist for Spreckles Sugar Company. David graduated from Salinas High School in 1958, then relocated to the Central Valley of California where he attended Modesto Junior College. It was there, that he met Kathie which quickly escalated into a beautiful relationship, and they married in Manteca on October 12th, 1962. After their marriage, David and Kathie moved to Modesto, California. They enjoyed many trips to the coast, especially Carmel and Monterey, spending time with family and friends before settling into becoming parents of Sheri and Jonathan. David joined the grocery business starting as a clerk and progressing to a Sales Representative position for both Pillsbury and Scott Paper Companies. He was heavily involved with the YMCA and was instrumental in getting bike lanes throughout Modesto City. He helped organize Camp Jack Hazard Summer Camps as well as organizing other events throughout the city. He also was asked to do a local Modesto morning news show. The involvement in the YMCA kick started his interest in health and nutrition. He started running with a group of friends from the YMCA and as the passion took hold, he was able to reach his goal of running his first marathon in 1980. He also became interested in bicycling, and participated in Century bike events, as well as backpacking, and yoga. There were many memorable backpacking trips in Yosemite National Park with friends and family over the years. Yosemite National Park touched his soul. He was a donating member of the National Park for many years. Being in nature was a place that brought him joy and inner peace. He loved books, all kinds. He loved reading multiple newspapers daily which put him in his happy place. European and American muscle cars were also a passion from his teen years owning an MG, a Porche, a Jaguar, a Corvette, and a Firebird - he loved going to car shows. He loved talking with people and was always there to help, to listen without judgement and offer support and advice if asked. David was special; a kind-hearted, loving, and compassionate man. Family was very important to him. His proudest achievements in life are his two children, Sheri, and Jonathan which he verbally expressed to each of them as often as he could. He was in a loving relationship with Daphne Cripps of Sebastopol, California for 25 years. David enjoyed living in Sebastopol and was surrounded by a supportive community enjoying a relaxed, quiet life until his passing. David is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Sheri and James from Auckland, New Zealand, his son, Jonathan from Salem, Oregon, his loving partner, Daphne from Sebastopol, California and his siblings, Dennis and Barbara from Lake Tahoe, Doug from Modesto and Susan and Langdon from Laguna Beach. He was also a loving grandfather to seven, grandchildren, Noah, Meg, Aloura, Tristan, Michael, Mel, and Quinn. and five, great-grandchildren. He was very close to Kathie’s sister and brother-in-law, RaeAnne and Wayne and their sons, Lee and Brad and daughter Layne and their children. He was friend to many, always present, engaging and interested. He valued and treasured those close friendships. There will be no funeral, and the wish of David, and his family would be to donate to your favorite charity in his memory. We hope that all who knew him will celebrate his life in their own special way.
